My name is Siri Nayakanti! I’m currently a senior, and this is my 4th and final year on the team but my first year as your Speech Captain! I specialize in public address, specifically informative speaking, which I’ve been doing since freshman year! Informative speaking is like the typical image of public speaking that comes to mind, but the reason I love it is because, each year, I get to pick a topic I am passionate about and truly inform and educate others on why it’s important. This type of speaking especially speaks to me (see what I did there:)) because I am an aspiring educator, so I love the idea of making something seemingly complex really engaging, funny, and easy to understand!
Though the idea of public speaking can seem daunting at first, I truly believe in the philosophy that those special few minutes each time you deliver a speech are yours. Your way to express your voice. Your chance to share what matters to you with those around you. And your way to open yourself up to be connected to a larger community.
But, aside from speech, here’s a little bit about me! As I mentioned, I’m really passionate about teaching and hope to be a high school or postsecondary teacher, majoring in chemistry (since I happen to love math and science). Because of this, I’m involved in the D204 Grow Your Own Teacher Program and in Metea Valley’s own Educators Rising and Students Count Math Tutoring clubs. I also love music! I’ve been playing the violin for the past 8 years and am a part of the Mustang Strings Varsity ensemble and Tri-M Music Honors Society! In my free time, I also like baking, hand-lettering, and spending time with friends!
If you are interested in joining speech or aren’t sure yet and have some questions, please let me know! I’d love to give you more insight about MVHS speech and answer all of your questions!
